Project's Engine folder size too big? Help reducing size of project

My project has less than 2MB of content right now. My game is based aroung Text Render actors and Text Render BluePrints flying on the screen so you can click the correct one according to a sentence. Nothing 3D and no complicated BPs at all.

Still, when I package the project, the ‘Windows No Editor’ folder has around 120MB. And when I check the ‘Cooked’ folder inside the ‘Saved’ folder. The “Engine” folder has 100MB of stuff.

I’m not sure if I’m using all the stuff that’s in there. In the project folder I can see lots of third party content and plugin stuff.

I’d like some help in that. To delete stuff I don’t need.
If somebody could assist me, I could give further info on the game itself, but is basically what I said above.

Also:

  • The Puzzle Game Example is the base of the project, but I deleted almost everything related to it. Just leaving the Score BP, the Puzzle Game Mode and Puzzle Player Controller.
  • Also marked the “Create compressed cooked packages” option. Before that, the project had 200MB of size.
  • No “Starter Content” folder on the project.
  • Set Build Config to Shipping.

I really don’t know what else I can do.

Please help.

Thanks a lot!

Hey Murilo,

I would suggest removing any assets/files/etc from your game that you do not plan to use at that moment. If you want to keep them in there just in case, go ahead and blacklist them out of your project.

Here are some links that may help you with reducing the size of your package:

Will take a look! Thanks!

You’re welcome, good luck!

Pure DENIAL ! An empty project is always 153mb (with nothing inside!). No answer at all, no tutorial, just links to other threads, where you can find zero solution… Ah yes, there is the mystical “blacklist.txt” solution, wich doesnt work (the empty project remains 153mb), wich you must be a soothsayer to use, because you cant find any tutorial…
You just can’t make android/ios games with this engine.
You spent 50 hours to make a superb mini-game ? Just put it in the trash, you will not be able to sell it, never.

OH…I even forgot I made this question…and yes… I still have the problem. The engine content (like Nvidia Physx) takes a lot of space! I’m really having a hard time reducing package size to my client and the deadline is today…even exporting to HTML I end up with a package of 110MB and this is the lowest size I get. It’s a 2D game…It wasn’t supposed to use that much stuff…

That’s classic frustration.
It’s a super powerfull engine super easy to use whoohoo, It’s totally free WHOOHOO, It’s universal on all supports even android and ios WHOOHOO !
You trust, you become enthousiast, you study, you work really hard, you are almost ready, then you compile, and your game that you expected to have a tiny size (like 500ko) have in fact a size of more than 100mb, then you realize that nobody will download a file that big, even you the maker… Then you feel mad, sad, bad, fad, and rad >:/

True :z . I really hope they fix this…we are on 4.12 already…

Instead of including the whole game engine components they should include option to select only usable components.
They are not interested in HTML 5 that’s why we haven’t got any update till 4.15.
If nothing happens we may switch to any HTML5 game framework like Pixi.
But i feel very bad.

Yeah they will. 100mb is nothing these days. I always tell friends “just delete it when you’ve looked at it (if you wish).”

so, no solution??

Don’t think so…I’m not into programming games at the moment, so I’m a little outdated on the current engine version features (I’m lacking the time to do so), but I’m pretty sure this problem is still there. At least on the last updates I saw there was a little improvement on package size. Let me know if you find anything!

Thanks
