I have a project that I aligned and created models for. I later added Ground Control Points and re-aligned the project. How does this affect the models that were made made prior to adding the GCP’s and re-aligning?
Hi Bill, I believe the orientation of the models will be different, e.g the space the the model is in. As setting Ground control points gives it scale if you have created a distance from the control points created

I went ahead and ran align after I added Ground Control Points to see what would happen. It created another component. The original component looked the same, but the new component looks odd. The tie points look strange (maybe warped) and there are leaders running from the control points. From what I have gleaned from other post is sounds like this has something to do with displaying the model at the viewport origin 0,0. Which maybe why the leaders appear to get longer the farther they are from the center of the grid (origin?).
I also read in another post that deleting all components before running align can help.
Here is an image showing the control points with leaders. My guess is that the ends of the leaders opposite the GCP indicate the correct position of GCP. The coordinate system I’m using is WGS 84 / UTM zone 40N.

Hi Bill,
When re running alignment / recon / etc it will always create another component and keep the original i’m pretty sure. That’s why the component you already had stayed the same. From what I know control points are used to give scale to the model you are working on by creating the distance once you have created the points on several or so images within your image list. I’m not entirely sure how the ground control points work but my guess would be similar. On the distance component have you got it set to ‘Ground control point’ as this may be effecting your results
