Project updated from ue4.21 unable to load maps or blueprints on ue4.22 & ue4.23

Hi there

I have been struggling with an issue for a few days and I wonder if anyone has a solution.
I have been updating our project from 4.21 so we can utilise some new tech that is only available on 4.22 or newer.

I get an immediate crash when trying to open a map or blueprint. Right clicking to make a new blueprint crashes unreal too. I have gone through various things - the usual tricks clearing down cache folders, generating new visual studio files etc. The rebuild in Visual Studio seems happy - comes up with success.

I have searched for similar error logs on the net and i’m unable to get anything close to this.
It is the same error in 4.22 and 4.23.
Visual Studio installs seem fine as does the UE4 installs (re-installed to be sure)

just to note - d:\build\ does not exist on my system nor does d:\agent_work so I’m thinking its a bad reference somewhere.

Tested on 4.24 and had the same results

I rolled back about 5 days to a stable 4.19 version of the project.

Running through a process of elimination. I’m starting to suspect a 3rd party save plugin… one of the output logs on the crash seemed to hint at it with ‘cant find file’ although results do seem to be a bit hit and miss.
Going to unplug the plugins and test a compile and then attempt another migrate…

Still unable to resolve this. Have updated the logs above. Hopefully someone clever can spot something!

There are quite alot of posts relating to this
Most report clearing cache folders to be the thing that resolves it.
Still no luck my end:

still receiving similar errors but now able to save new maps and items and run and edit the current blueprints. Maps need to be remade:

After a long read of various articles I think I have managed to overcome the issue. Gradual migration, recompile of current plugin source code to work with other versions, setting the project version in the project properties (1.1.1.1) , maps will load and play but not save so I have temporarily removed them and will re-iterate. New maps are now saving. Currently made it to 4.21 and observing the Pre-Compiled Header changes that come with that. Lastly adding:

PublicDependencyModuleNames.AddRange(new string[] { “Core”, “CoreUObject”, “Engine”, “InputCore”, “HeadMountedDisplay”, “UMG”, “Slate”, “SlateCore”});

to the projectname.build.cs seems to have overcome a plugin dependency.

I hope this helps someone.

additional - simply rebuilding the lighting on the old maps cleared the issue and allowed me to use the older maps. :wink:
