Project Overlord : Fast Passed Tactical MOBA

Hello everyone, let me introduce myself I’m Mars and I’m not a Game Developer, in fact I’m currently a French web designer. I never touched game development before, but I have this game idea since maybe two years right now, and I’m the kind of person who coming crazy if he can’t get out somethings of his mind.

**So let me introduce my game idea and maybe we can build it together, because I never do something like this before.

What is Project Overlord**

My project is to create a Tactical MOBA, yes I know what you gonna say. He never developed a game and he want to create a game that involve grid base management, Online Multiplayer and other things more complicated than that. But let’s put this aside.

**The core of the game is competitive 1v1 PVP. Each player build a team of 5 heroes and deploy them on the arena, the goal of each player is to eliminate the opponent King. Is more like a chess game with heroes and skills than a MOBA on a tactical grid. **

**My goal being here is to find help around the community and build the game together.

The World of Project Overlord**

The story take place in an alternate universe during the Era of Warring States. The lords of every kingdom seeking to seize power over the entire country are forming an army of mercenaries and heroes who will fight in their name.

As Lord you want to contribute to your renown and aim for the title of Overlord. As such you bring together the best heroes and would be smart and will stop at nothing to achieve your ends.

Tactical Moba Gameplay

My goal is to take the deepest strategy mechanic from Final Fantasy Tactic, who is my favorite kind of game, to the breadth of content who can find in a MOBA.

My goal is not to create an Atlas Reactor clone or a Tactical CCG like Duelyst. Is more like adapting the gameplay mechanic of an Final Fantasy Tactic to the modern standard in term of gameplay and balancing. Using MOBA as a backbone.

The core rule is simple each player incarn a Lord who is a Unit on the board. Before the match each player built there team of 5 heroes, each one with their skills, force and weakness. Your goal is do eliminate the opponent’s lord. Like king in chess, Lord Unit can’t do nothing except moving but during the match you will gain gold that allowing you to buy items thes item who will give to your lord different abilities for the rest of the game.

**Like every tactical game you will find some tile that give you positional advantage, bonus or malus etc. My piority is to focus on a gameplay design that are fair for each player with the less RNG I can.

Roadmap**

Right now I’m at the very beginning of the game development phase. All the documentation process like specifications, bible etc are ready.

**Because I’m not a developer I gonna use blueprint for the core of the game and I hope I will find support and contribution around the community. **

For everything related to the tactical gameplay I’m using ATBTT asset that I’m will customize according the need of the game.

I’m will post here the different step in the development of this project and futur issue I will encounter, hopping you can help me finding solutions.

I waiting for the community feedback.

Sorry for my english like I’ve said I’ don’t speak english.

Project Update

26.02.19

  • Implemented functionality : Player can only act with one unit of there choice by turn.

not really, i believe in new developers because they dont give up easily

sounds like an interesting idea for a PvP 1vs1 game, gonna wait for more updates on how its going

what in the world happend at the end of writing this post xD

Hi thank’s for your support

Yeah I was to exciting to share my post forgoten to read myself XD.

**New update : **I customised ATBTT to let player chose and act with only one unit by turn. I made this choice because I want to avoid One player moving all this unit and surrounding this opponent.

Is a choice I made for balancing I think like this player decision have more importance.

Don’t hesitate to let me now what you think.
