I have a project in unreal 5.6.1 where it will work on specific devices only and crashes on my home computer. It was a game jam project where I started on my home computer, and after running the project on a different computer at my school the project will immediately crash before I can open it back at my home pc. I also tested it on my laptop where it worked fine also. The only differences between my home computer and the others is that my home computer is amd while the others are nvidia.
Other than that I have had no other issues running other ue5 projects on it. I was able to get it running by importing all the files on a new project but for some reason there were a bunch of random static mesh’s and foliage actors completely missing from the viewport and content browser. Other than that everything else was there.
I would upload some logs too but I cannot do that due to me being a new user… I am also aware of a post about this same issue from 2022 but I have done their solution to no fix.
Yeah, this sounds like shader mismatch, considering that the machines involved have opposing GPUs, your project’s current cache is tied to nVidia data, and when you try to open it at home with AMD, it results in a crash with D3D12RHI / amdxc64.
Since the project works with no issues on the laptop, and fails in your desktop with an “EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION” error, that points at an engine conflict when rendering with AMD. So, the very first step here, is to clear up the cache on both your project and engine.
To do so, delete the following folders from your local app data:
After that, open UE, and allow the shaders to rebuild. Next, I would also update or refresh your current set of AMD drivers, and switch between DX11 and DX12 to check for differences in the project.
If the crash persists, get the new logs from the re-created /Saved/Logs folder, and upload them to GDrive, which should allow you to share them here.
Unfortunately I did what you said and deleted the files and I am still getting the same error. I also wanted to say that I am currently using the newest amd drivers (25.11.1), I also had this issue when running previous drivers (25.9.2). This was actually the reason I updated them to see if it would help.
Its very odd because I am able to run all my other projects just fine and I go back and fourth almost daily from these differing computers. This is the first project I have had this issue with.
Sadly whenever I try and upload the log file to a thread I get a message saying I cannot due to me being a new user… Not too sure how long it takes until I can.
