Processing thin, still, featureful surface

Hi, I’m trying to scan a traditional Fijian boat called a “drua” https://skfb.ly/6UxtY

I’m having trouble with the sail, it always has holes. After the alignment step I can see that the sail is full of points. But those points are not covered in the reconstruction step.

I read some other posts and learned that this is common for thin surfaces when there is movement that is greater than the thickness of the surface. But this scan was taken indoors and away from any wind or ventilation, so the sail was completely motionless.

What is the best workflow for fixing this? I would like to do this in Reality Capture if it’s possible, instead of using another tool for post-processing.

This gets very tricky dear user. All of such very thin surfaces will have issues being reconstructed. The best way to help it is to define the thickness of the object. Therefore you should have lots of pictures just for the flat part and lots of them on the edges where it comes to the other side perspective to tell the thickness better. Across the edge of the subject, I would go with at least 6 angles to define the shape. Still may not come out perfect but this should be helpful.
