Problems with importing cross sections/contours from Reality Capture?

I´m doing a visualisation of a ski resort and the customer want´s to see a visual representation of contours/height/cross section on the mountain. The project has been rendered in RC with good results.

I used RC´s cross section tool to create a DXF.

However, i´m struggling with importing the DXF into Twinmotion. Twinmotion imports the file, but displays nothing. Scale adjusting, zoom to selection etc. reveals nothing.

I´ve imported the DXF in Sketchup, with success.

I thought it would be a work around to import the .skp/sketchup project file, and Twinmotion does this happily, but displays nothing of the height curves.

So, my question is: Has anyone encountered this problem before, or has anyone managed to successfully add height curves/contours/cross sections in Twinmotion in any other way?

Hello.

Cordialement.

K

Hello.

Try an fbx export from your two software.

-On the visual "Crosssection RC" there seems to be splines, a kind of little Nurbs and a cutout box. We do not identify closed geometry. In theory, a nurbs skin on export closes the elements.

-On the "Crosssection dxf skp" visual, we can only see splines (or polylines) without closed geometry.

Some software does not really like that in export / import and we recover splines or even point clouds instead of geometry.

If you can forward an Fbx and your Skp to take a look.

Cordially.

K

Hello ,

Thank you for posting your issue un the community and it seems like the DXF is only containing 3D lines, and Twinmotion only reads 3D meshes information. As a workaround you could try to create a texture instead with the topo represented then apply the texture to the topo 3D mesh so it can be visible in Twinmotion.

You can also try and create 3D thickness/meshes out of your topo lines so they can be represented as objects/meshes.

Posting in the Facebook community will also get you some good other suggestions as there are more users there interacting with posts at this time. https://www.facebook.com/groups/twinmotion.community/

Hello,

Thanks for your input, i now understand the problem a little bit better.

I have not found a great solution for making a mesh out of the lines, so if anyone has a fast workflow for that i would appreciate it!

Kind Regards,

Carl
