I work in architectural pre-viz, and we often have instanced geometry (furniture, plants, etc) but apply different materials to different sets to these objects. For example we might have red chairs on one side of a room but blue chairs on the other side, but the geometry is identical, so we instance them.
Using the new scene importing options in UE4 4.12 it seems as though if I import a scene like I described above, it only generates 1 of the materials applied to objects and applies it to every instance of the mesh.
Is this a shortcoming of the tool? Or is this setup not common in the game industry? Obviously I can work around it and manually assign a new material to the objects that need it, but it would be a big-time saver if it respected the materials as I have them applied in 3DMax.
