Problem with water system in UE5.2 that doesn't affect/deform landscape when using Substrate materials

Hi guys,

I have a UE5 project that uses a Water system (lake and river), landscape, and Substrate materials. This combination doesn’t allow me to deform my landscape properly with river and lake bodies.
If I apply a river or lake over the landscape in a project that uses Legacy materials, it works as expected, but with a Substrate pipeline, unfortunately, it doesn’t.
I noticed that a height map in a legacy material pipeline has some preview of the landscape height plus water body shape, but in a substrate pipeline, it looks just red.
Please find a set of screenshots attached below.

My question is there any solution to make my river/lake water body properly work with a landscape in a substrate pipeline?

The original project I’m trying to add water to has a substrate pipeline, so, I can’t remake it with legacy materials.

Thanks, guys, for your time and support!

P.S. I would be happy to provide any additional information and screenshots you may require.

Hi guys,

Is it a unique problem I’m facing? Does anybody else see it or does everybody work well and as expected in such tools/method combination (water+substrate pipeline project)?
Maybe guys from the Epic team can post their thoughts? I would appreciate any thoughts/ideas.
Thanks!

If I read properly your issue, I think I have the same.

My water totally changed once I enabled substrate materials and I’m using unreal 5.4.

I don’t know how to make the water look like it does when using regular materials…

I would like to learn how to fix this also
