Hi everyone,
I’m working in Unreal Engine 5 using Chaos Vehicles to simulate a truck pulling one or more trailers. The truck and trailer are connected using a Physics Constraint.
I’m running into some strange collision behavior with the trailer while it’s being towed:
When I drive the truck alone and hit something, the physics behave correctly.
-
But when the trailer hits a wall sideways (for example while turning), it behaves as if it were extremely light, often bouncing unrealistically.
-
If I reverse into a wall with the trailer, the truck keeps pushing as if the trailer had no mass at all, until the system suddenly stores too much energy and everything gets launched forward like a spring.
I’ve already tried increasing the mass of the trailer, but it doesn’t change anything. It feels like Chaos Vehicle completely ignores the mass once the trailer is attached with a constraint.
Has anyone experienced something similar?
Any advice on settings, constraints, or workarounds to get more realistic collisions and prevent the flying/weird energy buildup would be greatly appreciated!
