Hi everyone,
I’m on PC (Windows 11) and I’m trying to publish islands from Fortnite Creative, but I can’t publish any map because private code creation always fails.
Error message: errors.com.epicgames.fortnite.content_service_request_failed (shows “Private code failed”)
Platform: PC (Windows 11)
Mode: Fortnite Creative (not UEFN)
Region: EU (Italy)
what happens:
I open Fortnite → Creative
I open Island Settings → “Publish Island” / create private code
It fails with the error above, so I can’t proceed to publishing.
Does it happen on:
Any island (including a brand-new empty island)
What I already tried (no success):
Verify Fortnite files in Epic Games Launcher
Clear Epic Games Launcher cache / restart PC
Reinstall Fortnite (if applicable)
Restart router, try different network (hotspot), disable VPN/proxy
Attachments: screenshot of the error.
How can I fix this? I don’t know what else to do. I can no longer publish islands and map updates even though I have all the necessary permissions.
Best regards
Hello there @Revolutionary24!
This issue has popped up a few times around the community, and from what I could find, the error you are getting means Fortnite is unable to validate you against Epic’s backend. Meaning, this is not a local issue, it’s ocurring server side. Mostly considering that, the problem happens with any island, even new/empty ones, a full reinstall changed nothing, and even a different network didn’t work.
So, what needs to be checked here, is your account’s standing. Go to the Fortnite Creator Portal, login to your account, and check the following:
- If you are still enrolled the Island Creator Program
- Check your profile parameters for conflicts (age, tax info, hyperwallet, region mismatch)
- Make sure your security features are enabled (like two factor authentication)
- Look for any pending verifications or terms to accept
- The profile may be temporarily restricted (for that, check with Epic Support Assistant)
If all these points are in order, then there’s one thing to try locally, that even a full uninstall could have missed. There could be lingering, old files in your local app data, which could result in authentication problems. To clear it up, take the following steps:
- Close both Fortnite and the Epic launcher
- Navigate to local app data, or simply run %localappdata% in Windows
- Look for folder “FortniteGame” and delete it (this won’t affect your local islands)
- Restart your programs, and try to access again
