I’ve released a game and noticed that there are a number of players everyday who try the game even though they don’t meet the minimum requirements. They are usually on an Intel integrated GPU, while I’ve listed Nvidia GTX 960, AMD R9 280, or equivalent as the minimum. Of course, this means that the game will crash on their PC.
I am wondering if there’s a way to improve their experience and make it so that the game will not crash, but instead run at a low frame rate (e.g. 5 FPS)?
The usual cause of the crash is the GPU timeout. The most common recommendation I’ve seen is for the user is to increase the waiting period by changing a value in the Windows registry. However, it’s not really feasible to ask new players to do this.
Any advice is appreciated.
