“Deferred Renderer” includes the ability to assign post-process materials for arbitrary passes. How to achieve the same output passes with the Panoramic Deferred Renderer?
Hello there @bri-do-fuse!
Testing the PDR node on my end, it doesn’t seem to have the same option for post process materials that DR has. Checking with my peers, you could test a workaround, by applying the post process materials using different post process volumes for each material you need. Keep them disabled, then render your panoramic, enabling only the matching volume for each pass.
A Movie Graph Modifier that overrides materials does not add an output pass. It only changes what the beauty pass shades, so you still get one panoramic image. That is why the collection plus modifier produced nothing extra. A modifier never gets a layer name, so the file output has nowhere to put a second buffer.
The Deferred Renderer node has an Additional Post Process Materials list. Each entry is its own output: a post-process material plus a name you set, and that name has to match a layer on the File Output node. The Panoramic Deferred Renderer is a different node and does not run that list. Toggling post-process volumes one at a time gives you separate beauty renders, not extra buffers from a single panoramic render.
What works:
- Select the panoramic node and check the details panel, not only the graph pins, for an Additional Post Process Materials array. On some versions the property sits on the shared image-pass base and is not drawn as a pin. If it is there, use it and skip the modifier.
- If the array is not there, this node cannot emit arbitrary post-process passes. Render those passes with the normal Deferred Renderer node, which has the array. For a 360, render six cube faces, or a latlong camera, through that node and stitch. You cannot attach the deferred PPM list to the panoramic node from a modifier.
- Built-in utility buffers (scene depth, world normal, motion vectors) are show-flag passes on the renderer node, not materials. A material override will not turn them on. Enable them on the node itself.
- Each custom post-process material needs the Post Process domain. Write the data you want to Emissive and disable lighting if you need raw values, and set the blendable location to Before Tonemapping. In the file output, the layer name has to be the name you gave that PPM entry, or the EXR will not contain it.
Thank you ChenDong, this is exactly where I landed. The panoramic deferred renderer (in 5.8.3-58210709) lacks the additional post process materials array. I’ve reverted to the cubemap approach, using the basic deferred renderer with my own depth PP.
