The settings to properly disable RayTraced Ambient Occlusion can be confusing.
To properly disable it according to my tests you need to check the ‘Enabled’ box and then uncheck the box to the right.
What makes more sense is to follow the logic used for Reflections and Translucency where you have a master toggle to choose whether you are using the RayTraced version or not.
