How much value does writing articles without professional experience have in getting my first job? I’m currently working on blockouts with design analysis to show that I can do it. I have an idea for a CTF map and another simple SP mission with horror elements.
build levels, then write about how you did it
Before the blockouts I wrote a whole site with lots of articles describing techniques that I’ve used in past unreal and quake levels. Or techniques that I’ve noticed in multiple games.
what i am saying is that you’ll be hired as a level designer (presumably that is the job you want?) based on your ability to design levels, not write about and analyze others peoples work.
Critic isn’t same as builder. If you’ve got some levels you made for a mod or something that’s probably a great thing to show. I doubt any recruiters will spend much time reading articles you’ve wrote.
