Portal Level Recreation

I made this project just to practice my UE4 skills (I began learning UE4 a couple of weeks back, switching from Source Engine). Being a Portal series fan, I’ve decided to build one of the levels. Since the art design of the series is so minimalist, it was a perfect place to begin practicing.
Most of the assets are taken from both Portal games (except for the blue-orange portal materials which are custom made).

I’m sure someone has already recreated Portal levels in UE4, but I’m posting this anyways, maybe someone might find this interesting
Looking forward to hear your thoughts, comments, advice and overall feedback!
Cheers!

Awesome! Great work.

Hey GameBurger,

Looks really great, are you just toying around with a single level or plan to make a few?
How long did this take from start to finish?

Connor.

Looks nice!

I actually started building some portals myself just the other day for a puzzle game, and includes pretty much similar mechanics as to what you’ve shown.

I figured it might be a good discussion to start here as I don’t have a thread of my own yet, and I don’t think you have it your video either: how do you think a good way to get the portals scene capture 2d setup perfectly to display like your looking through a window? I personally tried doing some simple rotating of the scene capture based on the players location, but could never get good enough results.

Thanks a lot, guys!

I was only toying around with one level, just for practice. The entire level took about 2 days 12 hrs each since most of the assets are taken directly from the original game. All that was left is scaling materials and meshes.

I’m afraid I can’t help you with portal setup, Higuy8000. Still can’t wrap my mind around the entire visual scripting thing (only raw code for meh) and I’ve got no experience with the engine yet.

Sorry for an extremely late reply.
Cheers.

I feel the urge to post this.

How do you get the orignals assets ? I really want to do the same thing  !
