I had the same problem recently.
And have found: that it is currently not working…
You cannot specify how many objects (coins) to give from spline point to next spline point.
I have posted it here.

Larger objects, paths and roads work wonderfully.
But if you want a path of wooden pegs (or coins)…you have a problem. ^^
I have left it for now.
