Poor performance when working on landscapes

Whenever I try to work on landscapes with one of the sculp-tools, the performance is so bad, that it is just impossible to get anything done. Often the screen freezes when I draw a new form (or try to smooth something or else…) on the landscape. It does modify the landscape / layer, but due to the lag it is completely unpredictable what exactly will change and how.

Since I started with the biggest possible landscape, I stepped down a bit, but even on a very small landscape, the performance does not improve significantly.

I can only assume my hardware is not the (only?) issue:

  • GTX 1080TI
  • 32GB Ram
  • Intel i7-8700K

(None of the hardware ressources seem to hit their limit whatever I do with a landscape)

All Tutorials or Demo videos online show a much smoother experience.

Is there any checkbox or option I missed which might help to improve the performance? Any hint or suggestion would be very welcome!

Just out of curiosity, are you using Edit Layers?

Yes, I am. However, I had this issue before and it does not only occur when working with Edit Layers…
