Poly Extrude Tool

Hi Epic,

I love the new modelling tools, except for the Poly Extrude Tool. It always aligns itself to to what ever the gorund plane is, which is the default extrude direction, but, I need to extrude right, left, top, or bottom, etc. Is there a way to snap the gizmo to the normal of the face that you are trying to edit. Manually moving the gizmo to be able to extrude is very annoying. If you make a mistake after enabling this tool and you where working on a right face and had to esc out of the tool, then you have to manualy move the gizmo again. It would be nice for the gizmo tho be snapped to the face that you are working on with the normal facing the right direction.

Hi Groover,

While in the PolyExt tool, if you hold CTRL and Left-click on a surface: The gizmo will snap to the normal of that surface.

Hope that helps!

2024 Edit: ‘PolyExt tool’ is now called ‘Extrude Polygon’ (In the Create tab of Modeling Mode)

Are you using the polyExt tool or the extrude tool inside of polyEdit? If you have are using polyExt then using ctrl-left click before drawing your initial polygon will allow you to define the construction plane. If you are using extrude as part of polyEdit you can change the direction and or direction mode so the extrusion will follow the face or axis you define.
