I’m an Unreal Engine newbie and this is my first project using Unreal and Metahuman. Blender has been my 3D software of choice for many years, but for this one I decided to give a shot to the Unreal Engine, and wow… I don’t regret it!
I love to make short films and animated poems. For this project, I tried to bring the famous poet Victor Hugo back to life. The learning curve was steep, but I’ll keep practicing and learning Unreal Engine.
I hope you like the video (PS: English captions are available for the non-french speakers).
And please, don’t hesitate to share your feedback if you spot things that can be improved.
I knew the poem would be a good one simply by the title alone, but I didn’t expect to be tearing up by the end of it.
Your amazing Metahuman animation and this powerfully spoken poem made for one of the most moving short scenes I have seen in a while. Kudos on the amazing job done with this creation!
P.S. Thank you so much for including English captions! You are incredibly accommodating and courteous.
Welcome to the Unreal Engine forums! We’re stoked to have you here
Metahumans still blow me away everytime I see a new one. The hyperrealistic features and characteristics are always so stunning. You’ve definitely managed to bring Victor to life. How long did it take you to create this?
Thanks @PresumptivePanda,
Yes the quality of Metahuman is incredible. Now my next goal is to learn how create my own Metahumans without using the Metahuman creator tool.
Regarding the time spent on this project, I don’t have the exact number but I’d say one month or so. I have a full-time job so I just worked on this after work and during the weekend.
I made three different versions of the character before getting to its final version, and the recording of the performance also took me quite some time, I think I shot 12 different takes in total. Also, I’m a complete newbie when it comes to Unreal Engine, so it took me quite a while to get familiar with the UI and all the functionalities. I spent a few hours watching tutorials on Youtube.
