I’m talking more about searching for megascans assets but I know there are complaints about the search function in general.
For instance, let’s say I want a grass material from megascans. So I search for “grass” and this pops up.
Not an actual grass material in sight. Now I know why that’s happening. It’s because the word “grass” exists as a substring in those asset’s names.
So I try the search again but with standard quotations.
Zero difference.
So it’s returning substring matches despite the quotation marks. I have to scroll halfway down the page to get to an actual grass material.
But it’s not just substring matches that make the experience cumbersome.
Let’s say I want to find a granite material.
Now granted this is better than “grass” because there are some matches you’d actually expect. But volcanic pebbles? Cobblestone? Why are materials popping up that aren’t even granite?
Is it the tags?
Nope. Not a single “granite” to be seen. So why is it returning when I search for granite?
I’ve been using UE for a very long time so I was able to grab all of megascans when they were free. But browsing them is extremely cumbersome and I’d request that Epic please at least look into it. It might be a bug nobody noticed but I know i’m not the only one who experiences this struggle. Finding exactly what you’re looking for in megascans should be as intuitive and easy as possible.
