Please Help, UE4 Crashes at New Level Creation page

I don’t know why but everytime I try to open the newly downloaded Unreal Engine 4, It crashes on the “New Projects” page.

I’m not very computer smart so please be as simple as possible when helping me thank you so much. I dont know what I can do so any help is much appreciated!

Hey Canyoubis,

I understand that you’re crashing when you’re at the ‘New Level Creation’ page however, I’d like you to [try this][1] and see if it fixes the issue you’re currently running into. This fix is typically for those who have the Launcher fail to load or completely crashes on them, but it’s possible it may work for you as well.

If that does not work, could you please provide me with your [Debug ][2]? Also, if you’re receiving any type of crash reporter that pops up after UE4 crashes, could you please save those as well in a .txt format and submit them with your next reply?

Thank you!

Thank you for your response! So I saved my dxdiag properties and such, which will be attached to this message, and as for the .txt document you requested, i dont exactly know how to save the for that as there is no direct button that i could see, but i shall look again. Sorry for my ignorance in that subject!

IF by it just meant a text type document from like… notepad, listing exact details of what the crash report said, then ill add that to the message.

If there is anything else you need please let me know.
Ive updated my drivers, if that helps your process at all.

Thanks again for the reply! [link text][1]

Hey Canyoubis,

Typically when you have an Intel graphics card, it’s a prime candidate for needing the OpenGL command. Are you able to try making a shortcut of the Editor Launcher and adding the command to the target path there?

If the above suggested doesn’t work, what happens when you delete the -openGL from your command line?

Also, could you please elaborate more on what your graphics card actually is? In the dxdiag , it’s listed as ‘Intel HD Graphics Family’. If the driver is out of date, this could be the issue you’re running in to. If your graphics card doesn’t support DirectX 11, that also would be why you’re having these difficulties. A graphics card that supports DX11 is required to run the engine.

We also noticed that ‘d3d11’ is showing up in the crash log which also supports the claim that it’s something to do with your graphics card and/or DirectX.

Looking forward to hearing back from you, thanks!

Well When I proceeded to try right clicking the shortcut, clicking on properties, shortcuts tab, Target, I typed in " -OpenGL" BUT once I did that the epic games launcher wouldnt even open, I would just get a crash message that reads as follows:

MachineId:CD4AF53B45E9B1BB1EA7FEABE55E6FA5

You do not have any debugging symbols required to display the callstack for this crash.

So yea Idk what thats about, but when I undo the “OpenGL” my launcher starts up, yet I still cant successfully launch the actual unreal engine 4.7 program

And about the graphics card: My computer says I have direct X 11, so why wouldnt it also come with a graphics card that could support DX11? I dont understand that one, stupid intel ahahh. As for finding out more about my graphics card, could you possibly give me some pointers as to where Ide have to be looking for said information? Again, sorry for my ignorance in this subject

Also: If you wanted me to make a shortcut for the actual engine and THEN applying the “OpernGL” command (in the proper place) instead of doing that for the actual epic games launcher, then Ide have to ask, how might I go about making the shortcut directly to unreal engine?

Hey Canyoubis,

This is where I currently have 4.7 installed on my system: D:\Epic Games\4.7\Engine\Binaries\Win64

So if you go into that folder, you can sort it by file type and right-click on UE4Editor.exe and send a copy of it to the desktop. That will locate that specific version of the Engine instead of going through the Launcher.

If the Editor opens that way, then there is something happening with the Launcher. You should also be able to add the -OpenGL to the end of the UE4Editor.exe shortcut that’s on your desktop too, to test that theory out.

In regards to your graphics card, this is the model of your graphics card: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0126&SUBSYS_06231025&REV_09

Looking into that further, your computer does support DirectX11, so that should not be the issue.

Please try what I’ve suggested above and let me know whether or not the Editor actually opens for you. Please try it with and without -OpenGL added to the target line.

Cheers!

Okay, first off, thank you for putting so much effort into helping me, much appreciated!

Ive done as you asked and when I got to launch the engine through the shortcut, I get this message:

Message

OpenGL 3.2 is required to run the engine

Is opengl 3.2 something i have to download?

Sorry for all the questions hahah

Hey Canyoubis,

OpenGL 3.2 is something that you can download. Once it’s downloaded, the Editor should work. Make sure you follow any downloading/installation information once you find the download for it.

Thanks!

Okay, thank you very much for all your help! Ill try what you reccommended and hopefully it will work. Have a good day/night!

Good Morning,

You’re very welcome for all of the help provided. Please let us know if you need any additional assistance regarding this topic, or any other.

Cheers!

Hey again

So i looked in numerous places with many different keywords to search through , and I found numerous download sites but everytime I download it, I get a message that says, roughly, that the version of opengl isnt compatible with the form of windows my computer is running. As im sure youre aware, and as Ive stated, Ive never done this type of stuff before and I dont know where to look anymore or what I need hahahhah as pathetic as that might seem to anyone who knows this stuff. Is there a specific page that people are going to in order to download open gl 3.2? I gone through softonic and the opengl website and a few others, nothing works. Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated as all your other help has been!

Hey Canyoubis,

Sadly, I don’t know too much about OpenGL. However, I have looked into this further and I’ve found this ‘wiki’ for it: [OpenGL Wiki][1]

The information within this wiki states that you need to download the appropriate drivers. I would suggest making sure that your Windows driver is updated, as well as the Intel driver (due to your GPU).

Basically, make sure that your Windows and GPU drivers are up to date before trying to download and install OpenGL. If you run into additional complications, you may want to look over one of the tutorials that’s listed for fixing OpenGL (I see a few uploaded).

Let me know if this information is helpful. If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask and provide any errors/screenshots that may be helpful. Either way, I can try to poke around a bit more and find out some more information for you.

You are very sweet thank you so much! Ill look into that wiki and double check my drivers are all properly updated and ill also check out the tutorials! thank you for your time, patience, and effort in helping myself, it is much appreciated! Lets hope this works! hahaha (:

Hey,

You’re very welcome. If you have any other questions, or run into any additional complications with OpenGL, please let us know.
