Please help, cannot install Ue 4.10

I have been trying to install UE4 4.10 for the past 2 days but keep getting errors. It all happened when i uninstalled it, believing i didnt need it anymore, then i installed UE4 4.11 preview 5 and then i tried installing 4.10 again cause i wanted to upgrade my project because there are bugs in the editor that 4.10 fixes and it will not install, saying that it cannot find the required pre requisites. I get error E-1638 almost every time, others it’s E-1226. I have googled solutions to this and found several posts on answer hub that tried to solve the problem by uninstalling VC 2015 x64 and x86, and also uninstalling the Epic games launcher pre requisites, to installing newer versions of VS, all to no avail. I believe this post makes the most sense in terms of whats happening

Specifically this part:

"Here is the problem, as I just found out :

The pre-requisite for 4.10.1 (version 1.0.10.0) is older than the 4.11.0 pre-requisite (version 1.0.11.0, if I remember well).

During the install process of 4.10.1, the launcher attempts to install 4.10.1 pre-requisites.

The 4.10.1 pre-requisite exe file refuses to install if a more recent version is already installed on the system. (although its possible to do a manual install of the pre-req by the mean of the .msi, as I did before, but it doesnt help in the end).

The 4.10.1 install process fails."

So what im thinking is the pre requisites for 4.11 are newer and are ******** with the installation of older versions of UE4, i was going to completley uninstall epic games launcher and do a re install, which may fix the issue, however im afraid that if i do that then i wont be able to install a stable version and the same problem thats happening with 4.10 will happen with any older version.

However I went to the folder where UE4 4.10 was installed and I found the editors .exe and was able to use 4.10 without problems. and like i said i uninstalled the pre requisites and installed the ones for 4.10 but still noluck, does anyone have any ideas on what i can do?

I can not guarantee this will work but if I was in this situation I would just create a backup of all the Epic files someplace else and then try uninstalling and reinstalling everything. That way even if it doesn’t work you will still have the old version. Again I have no idea if this works or not, it’s just an idea. Best of luck.

Hmm, I think i might just wait for 4.11, whenever that comes out, hopefully soon.

Ok…hopefully whatever is going wrong here will be fixed by then.

I must admit, I’m doing the same. It took weeks to successfully download 4.10.2, and took uninstalling VS2013 and installing VS2015. But by that time, my 4.9 project was too big to easily port over. I tried to download the 4.10.3 hotfix last night, and got the error message again. I’ll wait until 4.11, and see what happens then. (I mean, I don’t have to upgrade. 4.9 currently gives me everything I want).
