The newer input system is very obtuse and I shouldn’t have to manually go into the config file just to add a new input with the older system. I’m sure the newer input system has its benefits but I cannot wrap my head around it because it is very confusing and nothing makes sense. I look up how to use it and its all long videos and nothing short and consise. Anything written is so lengthy and overwhelming. This is an absolutely dreadful system for someone finally switching from 4 to 5 and I shouldn’t even have to worry about it but the menu for binding things with the older input system has been removed. Please bring the menu back in the next stable release, I don’t want to hear how much better the new system is when its obtuse and overwhelming unless its rehauled to actually make sense. I just want to use what actually works for me as a developer.
Hey,
I feel you. I had to go through the same process.
I think they finally removed it in 5.7 but I’m on 5.5.4 and I believe it’s still available. So if you don’t need the latest stuff from 5.7 perhaps you could use an earlier version?
That being said, give it a go. Enhanced input can be a pain when switching from old system but it will pay off in a long run and it will become a new norm for you after couple weeks. It’s been in use for a while so there are some great tutorials available explaining each part.
You got this!
