Playing video files on the Steam Deck resulting in a color bars screen.

Hello,

I have a couple of video files playing in my game (instruction videos during tutorial).

Some users are reporting that they see a color bar screen instead of the video specifically on the Steam Deck (google it if you don’t know what color bars is, they used to be displayed on old TVs).

But they work totally fine on my Steam Deck, so it’s a bit weird. They are mp4 files with h264 encoding.

Anybody else with experience who could point me in the right direction to fix this?

The bars often appear when the screen isn’t able to fully fit the video, often related to screen resolution. I would verify that you and the others are running the same resolution of the game on the steam deck before I continue looking at other solutions.

Unfortunately not, the issue shows up on some Steam Deck units and the videos work fine on other units (they work on my unit).

I’ve heard that the deck only supports certain codecs etc but clearly this is not the issue since the files work on some decks.
