Platformer running and then stopping abruptly with slide

hi, im trying to figure out how i can make my character movement more like the one from Mario odyssey or sonic games, where when the players character is running and then stops abruptly or tries to change direction drasticly he can slides(not sure whats the correct word for this).
I tried changing the player movement - ground friction and the braking deceleration, but its not really doing what im trying to do.

any ideas on how i can achieve this?
