Planar reflections broke? 4.14 preview

There I was , so excited in taking 4.14 preview for a spin, and 2 things happened. One, the light emitting particle system was making all my point lights blink, and then secondly NO planer reflections. The option to turn it on in optimizations int he project settings is gone!

Was it moved?

Is this a thing of the past?

James

The ‘support global clip plane’ project setting has been moved to the Lighting category.

Planar reflections seem to be working for me. What steps do you follow starting from a blank project to see them broken?

I was trying to find this. Will look again and check back in

Well I found the “Support Global clip plane for Planer Reflections”, and it has been and is enabled. BUT it’s not working properly
Maybe I’m missing a few extra settings, but the reflections are horrible and the clipping is even worse.
Angle seems to be off, the reflection is smeared, and then abruptly blurry.

That does look like SSR.

Here’s the same scene in 4.13. Still a few issues (back wall reflecting odd shadow (I’m thinking it’s a triangulation thing)), but as you can see, no clipping and no abrupt blur, and it is correctly updating as if you look at a certain angle you see a pawn being animated.

Does the mirror have a roughness of 0? In 4.14, planar reflections get faded out if the surface is rough (since planar reflections can only do sharp reflections).

The first screenshot looks a lot like SSR with the way the reflection fades out roughly where things go off-screen.

Dunno, will go back and check. I believe I tried all variations 0-1
Will check after I render today

PS: sorry for the delay I didn’t get a notification that you replied :frowning:

4.14 Preview-2 has fixed this issue Whoo hoo!

Ok I take that all back. Still very much broken, and other reflections are all screwed up now too :frowning:

Hey James, at this point, can you post on the AnswerHub and we can investigate and see if we can help you get this sorted.

Some things for you to check on your end would be to see if this is happening in a blank project as well as your own project. Any screenshots for comparison would be helpful along with any settings you’ve adjusted for the Planar Reflection.

It may be worth setting up a Post Process and disable SSR and any Reflection Captures so that you only see the PR being represented. Once you’ve posted, please post a link here and I’ll assign myself to follow up.

Thanks!

Tim

Ok posted in the AnswerHub

Thanks for looking into this.
