Placing objects en masse - is there a way to speed things up?

Newbie question, so apologies in advance.

I’m working on a large scene which I plan to cover with a lot of assets - rocks mostly, but probably lots of other natural world detritus. My scene is huge, 20km square, so I am going to need to place a huge number of assets.

I know how to place them one at a time, but I’m guessing there must be a way to “spray” them onto the ground with some automatic random variance in rotation and scaling, and have them know not to go through the scenery or any other objects.

I spent a while looking for any YouTube tutorials on this type of thing but came up blank.

Thanks!

Foliage tool. Set the radius large enough so objects are not placed inside each other.

No way for the tool to use an object’s collision model so I could, for example, create a rock slide type thing with many objects pilled on to of each other?

Related question, is it possible to control object placement through masks? (as I can with landscape layers).

Thanks!

You can create a rock fall using Matniee and physics objects then export the final layout as a mesh or an animation etc.

You can restrict painting to a landscape layer that you probably already painted down.
