Hello all,
I am trying to figure out construction scripts and bueprints. So far I was able to create a building of which I can swap out each wall or floor to my liking. I also know how to place windows whereever I want.
The thing that bothers me the most right now, is that I dont know how to make these windows or doors actually seethrough or so that you can walk through the door. The only way I figured out for now is to have several different wall meshes with doors on different parts of the wall. However, that doesnt seem very practical to me.
So basically Im trying to be able to place the door, through which you can walk, at a random location without having different wall meshes.
Any help is appreciated!

Unfortunately this is a constraint of pretty much every modeling system, because once a static mesh is created, it’s just that: Static. So what most development teams do is something called “Modular assets”. Think of it this way: you make your own lego set, but it’s walls and doors. Say you want to make a large building. You make a set of 5x5 walls of differing shapes and sizes, then do the same with floors. Some walls have windows, some have doorways, and so on. You then take your 30 or so varying pieces and build the building, then highlight the entire thing (not including ANY movable pieces), right click it and “convert to static mesh” then BOOM whole building is now one object. If you want to make movable doors you would just make a door object and place it in the hole, give it a rotation point and interaction from there.
There are a ton of packs, free and otherwise, on the marketplace that are modular asset packs. I really like this one for feeling things out.
