Pixel Dude in editor?

In the Content Examples > Input Examples there are a couple static meshes made our of “pixels,” and since the editor’s snapping features and copying are so great I was able to make more Enemy Pixel Ships faster than I can in Maya.

However, I don’t see how I can use this grouping of static mesh cubes for use in Blueprints. Can you save out groups of static meshes as a single static mesh?

How were these assets made: in Unreal or a third party editor like Maya or 3d Studio Max?
