Picking up a Kindle Fire HDX do I need to convert it to an android OS like Lollypop to use it for android development? If so, how would one go about doing that?

My normal android tablet is busted and I’ll be picking up a kindle fire. Do i need to do anything special to continue developing my android project on it, say convert it to lollypop or can just proceed as normal?
