Hey everyone
I am having an issue with tracking wind effects on my character in sequencer 5.1. I can track the animation just fine and everything else in the scene except the effects of the wind on cloth.
I can’t figure out why my character falls to the ground anytime I activate physics. It’s the only way I can get the cape to move in the wind except the mesh falls apart as if all the bones broke at the same time. The character works fine in game/simulation mode without physics enabled but the wind effect won’t work. How do I fix this?
First figure out if you are using chaos or physX.
Based on that, the answers are wildly different.
Physx used to work ok with wind during simulation - but as far as I remeber the simulation did not get recorded in any way/shape or form unless you created the final render/movie.
Similarly for all physics.
The take recorder and even “simulate” don’t usually take physics into account.
To get that to work in 4.something you had to start the take, time when to hit play in PIE.
After that, the simulated positions of items (not cloth) was saved up and could be scrolled through, even altered.
With chaos, in theory, the take should at least be capable of saving the vertex locations for the simulation.
In practice, I wouldn’t be caught dead using 5 for anything until they actually do fix it…
Ahh so this is a technical issue with 5.1 and not something I am doing wrong? I am using the Chaos Physics. For the life of me I cannot figure out why the mesh collapses on simulation but works fine without physics being enabled. I won’t have wind effects but at least the mesh doesn’t fall apart.
You would think that if it works for foliage it would do the same for cloth.
