[Perforce] Timeout when submitting changelist (probably bad connection). Disable timeout?

Hi,
so after days of setting up perforce, we’re finally synced, and my friend downloaded all the files from my server.

But I am in Germany and he is 11800km/7300 miles away in Hawaii. His internet also isn’t the best (6.5MBit/s).

Now when he tries to UPLOAD a change that he made (1 map, 21.5mb), its syncing with my server for a while, and then he gets a timeout with the error:

“Operation is taking a long time to complete. Click cancel to stop the current operation, you can try again later.”

What? Why doesn’t it just take bit longer and finish? And when he tries again, it repeats with the same result. Is there like a way to disable the timeout for “operations” or anything like that?

i’m having the same issue, perforce+UE 4.10, canadian broadband using ec2. often don’t have this problem but when there are a lot of files it just tells me try later and doesn’t seem to resolve itself if i just wait it out.

My friend and I found a workaround today:

Try submitting the files through the perforce client instead of doing it through Unreal Editor.

yes this works, and if you divide large jobs (eg if u have 2000 files) into parts you can do in a minute or so you can get through it. probably unreal engine with perforce isn’t prioritizing cloud as it is somewhat impractical for a real studio.

This is actually an issue on perforce, I get the same issue when submitting directly from the client… have to break it down
