Perforce still installed but using Github

I had tried Preforce but never like the complicated setup. So I uninstalled the program and switched to github. Now when I create a file I get asset check errors that assets files were not marked for add in Perforce.

I can ignore it, but I always have to check the error to make sure its only Perforce errors, how can I completely remove Perforce from UE5.

  1. Make sure that in your Source Control settings on the bottom right, you’ve set it up to use “Git (beta)”.
  2. In Windows File Explorer, right click the folder containing your Unreal project, and open the properties. Deselect “Read Only” if it is selected, and apply it to all subfolders and files. Click “Ok”.

This should fix the issues.

Just to clarify, I am setup for Github Beta and no issues. I can check in/out. But when I compile/Save a BP I get the assest errors for Perforce.

Did you make sure that “Read Only” is cleared on all files?

Yes, But I fail to see how that comes into play as that is the default for all projects. I can read/write as I said, Checkin/checkout through Github the fact when I save the project I get the error stating Perforce leads me to believe there are files perforce has installed to the project/engine that need to be removed.

Just switching your source control to Git should be enough to turn off any of those dialogs. If you’re still getting check in/check out dialogs for perforce, then usually that’s an indicator that some files may still be in read-only mode within your project, causing the engine to prompt for source control (it assumes read-only = perforce/vcs)

That being said, you should be able to disable the integration entirely by disabling it in your plugins:

I actually just tried that myself. Didn’t work

Guess I should clarify more. Perforce was installed on this computer and tested, but not with this project. New projects I create have the same issue as well.

That is the confusing part. Only Github has been initialized on this project.

Are you sure this isn’t just the intended functionality of the Git source control plugin? If not, can you show the exact dialog that you’re talking about?

Dont think it is the functionality. Here is the error. But now that I read it it is saying the /Engine/Reference is not marked for add in perforce. So thinking somehow the actual game engine code is still set to use perforce?

I have found this message on several older posts, but with no solution from what I can tell. I need to see if this is Lyra Specific. Perhaps this is an issue with Epic using perforce in the source code itself.

  1. Open your Unreal Engine project.

  2. Go to Edit > Project Settings > Plugins.

  3. Search for "Perforce" in the search bar.

  4. Disable the Perforce plugin if it is enabled.

  5. Go to Edit > Project Settings > Source Control.

  6. Change the Source Control Provider to “None”.

  7. Restart Unreal Engine.

Once you have done this, Perforce should no longer be associated with your project :eyes:

Nope… I already thought of that.

Sounds like it is a common problem with Lyra. My guess is Lyra uses Perforce, so it is embeeded in the C++ project used to build. So need to review and make sure those references are cleared.
