Pelvis and rootbone problem Maya -> UE

Hello fellow devs!
Me and my university team have been facing a problem lately in our final project.

As you can see in the walk.wmv (in the link provided), our character has a custom animation and rig ( made by us, and this is maya ), and it works just fine on maya, where it was created.
Now, when you see the second video, the walk_unreal.mp4, you’ll see that after importing to unreal, this isn’t working properly, the pelvis bone the hipbones and the rootbone doesn’t move at all

Any one has any idea why?

You don’t have a root bone. You need an additional Bone which resides at 0,0,0 and is the parent of hips (and any other bone)
A custom Rig won’t work. You need an actual bone.
