PC for Unreal Dev under $2k

Hello Unreal community!

I’ve been working on my game for almost 3 years now on the same laptop. It’s worked great for me but it’s starting to overheat very quickly when running Unreal Engine and it takes forever to compile shaders. My main concerns are speeding up my development by getting the most threads possible and having a great enough video card to create high frame rate video presentations. I’d also like to have this PC optimized for VR development for another project in the future.

Is it best to buy a premade computer or build your own? I’ve built my own before but it’s been a while and I’ve noticed some good deals on Amazon for premade.

$2k is about the limit, but it would be nice if I could get it cheaper without unnecessary upgrades.

Here are the specs on my current machine:

ASUS
Intel Core i7-6500U @ 2.50. 2 Cores, 4 Logical Processors (threads?)
Gefore GTX 960M
16 GB RAM

You could go for a premade one like this, but building your own it is always the better option … you could save money or buy the best PSU and motherboard, SSD and so on within the budget:
