Pathtracer doesn't seem to take enough indirect light into account versus V-Ray, Corona and many other offline renderers

I think the problem is, no matter the setting I can't seem to get enough sky indirect bleed in my shadows. They always seem to be black despite using a HDRI

Out of the Box, V-Ray etc.. get a lot of this light bleed, making the GI a lot softer and more natural.

Unless I'm doing something wrong I just can't achieve such nice looking colored shadows in PT (my render attached below has 100x GI bounces)
