Company: Redmond 3D
Location: Remote
Type: Contract/Freelance
About the Project:
We are embarking on an ambitious project to create a massive photorealistic dataset consisting of approximately 100,000 short image sequences (each about 100 frames). This dataset will be used to train various AI models. We aim to generate diverse and dynamic scenes across multiple environments—forests, cities, homes, industrial areas, and stylized or sci-fi settings.
What We’re Looking For:
We are seeking an expert Unreal Engine developer who specializes in scripting and automation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in procedural content generation, camera automation, character placement, and rendering pipelines. Your primary goal will be to develop and implement systems that automate the creation and rendering of these scenes efficiently.
Salary:
We are open to any fair hourly wage depending on experience. This is not a project where the lowest wage wins, we are looking for experienced professionals and the wage will match.
Key Responsibilities:
• Automation & Scripting:
• Develop scripts to automate the placement and animation of MetaHumans and other 3D characters.
• Automate camera setups, movements, and randomization to generate a wide variety of image sequences.
• Implement systems to randomize lighting conditions, post-processing effects, and environmental elements (e.g., night-time, rain, fog, smoke, fire).
• Procedural Content Generation:
• Utilize Procedural Content Generation (PCG) tools to build complex and detailed scenes quickly.
• Integrate a mix of free and paid Unreal assets to create rich environments.
• Rendering Pipeline:
• Configure and optimize the rendering pipeline to handle large-scale rendering tasks.
• Implement methods to output various data passes (AOVs) such as depth maps, object segmentation, motion vectors, normals, etc.
• Technical Collaboration:
• Work closely with our team to solve technical challenges and improve pipeline efficiency.
• Provide input on best practices for large-scale data generation and rendering.
Qualifications:
• Expertise in Unreal Engine Development:
• Extensive experience with Unreal Engine’s Blueprint and C++ programming.
• Proven track record of scripting and automating complex tasks within Unreal Engine.
• Procedural Generation Skills:
• Proficient in using PCG tools to create dynamic and complex scenes.
• Experience with automating scene creation and asset placement.
• Rendering Knowledge:
• Familiarity with real-time path tracing and rendering optimization techniques.
• Experience in outputting multiple render passes and working with AOVs.
• Technical Skills:
• Strong understanding of 3D mathematics and animation principles.
• Experience with Python scripting and integrating external scripts is a plus.
• Additional Qualifications:
• Prior experience in VFX or related industries is highly desirable.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
Project Details:
• Timeline: We aim to start rendering the dataset within 2 months.
• Resources: Access to extensive rendering hardware, including 80x 80GB A100 GPUs and hundreds of 4090 GPUs.
• Collaboration: You’ll be working directly with a VFX industry veteran with over 20 years of experience, including running a large VFX studio.
Why Join Us?
• Innovative Work: Be at the forefront of combining Unreal Engine technology with AI model training.
• Technical Challenge: Tackle a massive project that pushes the boundaries of what’s possible with automation and procedural generation.
• Professional Growth: Collaborate with experienced professionals and expand your expertise in large-scale rendering and data generation.
How to Apply:
Please submit the following:
• Resume/CV: Highlighting your relevant experience in Unreal Engine development, scripting, and automation.
• Portfolio or Demo Reel: Showcasing projects that demonstrate your expertise in procedural content generation, automation, and rendering pipelines.
• Cover Letter: Briefly explain why you’re the ideal candidate for this project and how you would approach the challenges involved.
