[Paid/Contract] Stylized/Hand-Painted Environmental Artist

I am looking for several individuals that are open to a paid mentorship and/or a possible hire position. I am turning my programming (web/mobile) direction towards the gaming industry and need a little help getting started. This position is an hourly or contract paid position. Over the last 2 years, I have built and bought several advanced gaming assets which I have used to learn blueprinting basic blueprinting and prototyping (inventory/npcs/shops, social systems, stats, questing, etc). I have a very strong programming background (Python, JS, Etc) and I am looking to take the next step. Due to being a coder, I am severely lacking in the creativity department and could use some help with getting a stylized environment. I don’t talk specifics until NDA’s are signed and terms agree’d upon. If I have to give ANY kind of example for environmental art type, it would be Fortnite. I am in no way trying to clone a battle royale game, but Fortnite serves as a great example for art style concept.

This position would aim to be a teaching tool as well as developing a prototype for a game idea I currently have, which I plan to fund entirely in-house.

What you’ll do:

  • Start by creating basic environmental assets

    • Creating procedural landscape materials.

    • Create art assets (PBR)

    • Create conceptual environment (Prototype only, no level design in any way). Including but not limited to, overall environment post processing, landscape importing (height-maps), landscape sculpting, landscape procedural generation etc.

  • Create foliage models (grass/tree’s/bushes/etc)

  • Create basic level assets (Rocks, Fences, Random stuff if talent and desire is there, this part is completely negotiable.)

  • Create spline type road/pathings, can be done with spline or material painting. Painting may be a better option IMO (landscape/model material blends, procedural edging, etc).

  • Deliver on all milestones in a timely fashion, and include good communication on how the pieces work and answer any questions I may have in an educational capacity.

What Sets you apart:

  • You are experienced with blueprint system AND C++ development.

  • You are experienced with advanced/complex ue4 programming.

  • You are an expert modeler in either 3dStudoMax, Maya or Blender.

    • Including UV’ing and texturing (substance a plus and may even be required for what I want to do).

Why this works:

For anyone who is just looking to freelance with no real commitments but want to rely on income on a weekly/bi-weekly basis, then this is the perfect project. My initial intention as stated above is to personally learn. With that in mind the relationship can be very simple and laid back. As long as items are done by specified and agree’d upon deadlines, I am a happy camper! I pay instantly have a good chunk of funding to continue down this road and possibly grow into something larger. I am looking for top notch talent, not someone who wants to make a quick buck.
