Hello!, this is an environment I finished recently made with UE5.2 and Houdini.
C&C is much appreciated!
Cheers!
Hi there @Totinguis,
Hope you’re well!
Just popping in quickly to say how dreamy and beautiful this environment is. Cherry blossoms are always such a breathtaking element to include What inspired this projects creation?
Thanks for sharing!
Hi @PresumptivePanda, thank you for your kind words. Cherry blossoms are breathtaking indeed! I always loved them.
I’ve been looking to create a japanese shrine for quite some time. The architecture of these buildings is fantastic, wood craftmanship is incredible with all those intricate joints and roofs, and also the balanced harmony between human intervention and nature in japanese culture is for sure a sight to behold. So, I’ve always been kinda fascinated by this.
On the practical side of things, I wanted to explore a workflow using tiling textures and baked masks using unreal’s layered material to remain on the cheap side of things while trying to make it look as custom painted as possible. So I ended up with a couple of packed masks for various meshsets being driven by a master instance for easier control so I can change the look of the building from a single shader and all the sub instances only receive their custom mask.
In general everytime I create a personal project first comes the sense of wonder for a particular theme and then I think, “ok what can I learn from doing this”…
Greetings, @Totinguis. I hope you’re doing well! Thank you for sharing your gorgeous 3D environmental cinematic with us in the forums! This environment is stunning by all standards, especially when watching in 4K. Still, your creation is all the more impressive, knowing you completed it in its entirety in just three weeks. I’m curious: how long have you been developing virtual environments, and how long have you been the lead environment artist at your studio “Nimble Giant Entertainment?”
Thank you so much @Zezkaii. I’m really happy that you liked it and also thank you for taking the time to write.
I’ve been doing environment art for about 15 years now but my background is from architecture and the bulk of my experience comes from that discipline and film, that been said, my one and true love is and always has been game development.
I always looked forward to work in the games industry but when I started looking for work there were little to no opportunities in my country, but I never lost hope (that’s the last thing you loose right? , so two and a half years ago Nimble Giant gave me chance (for which I am going to be forever grateful) and here I am!
Don’t mention it; the pleasure is all mine. Fifteen years is no small feat of time to dedicate to a craft. Your mastery and experience definitely shine through in your creation!
I hope we get to see more designs from you soon!
Learning and art coming together always results in some pretty beautiful projects (especially on these forums!) I look forward to seeing your work in the future. Happy developing!
EPIC!
Hey there @Totinguis ! Welcome back to posting with us here on the forums! We’re super excited to see your recent project!
I will say I agree with many points that has been made on the beauty of the scene you’ve created. I will say this also makes me think of a fight scene that I love to see from Fate the anime. I can’t remember which iteration of the show of the top of my head but I know it was a fight in a very similar scene!
