Hellooooooooo, Epic community & staffers!
This is mostly for staffers who work on the marketplace. I have bought many texture & material packs from the marketplace (which needs a million more pieces of content!.. please) and some of the packs share the same file names or folder names. Whenever I add my content to a new project (I start and delete many projects because I still have my training wheels on), I am overwriting files I purchased from another pack.
Since this does cost actual money, its unfair to the purchaser, and TBH, I am losing materials or textures due to the fact of marketplace authors or staffers not checking to see if files already exist, or they are not adding them to a project folder yet adding them to the default “Content/Textures” or “Content/Materials”.
Please fix this! I did not expect to overwrite files I paid for!
Its pretty common to use multiple marketplace asset packs in the same project.
The problem is apparently the marketplace authors did not follow the convention of putting their stuff in Content\MarketplaceName\Stuff and just put their stuff in Content\Stuff, which causes all kinds of problems.
I’d love to see a list of marketplace assets Rallii that did this so I can know what not to buy or give Epic a chance to address it.
I should have elaborated. That due to this problem, I have a Staging Project to add content and inspect before migrating into the main project. I was under the impression Epic checks for the convention. Its easier for the purchaser to manage on their end, than it is for content creators.
Its part of the requirements for marketplace submitters to put their content in their own uniquely named folder. A staging ground is a workaround, but if the requirements were followed, this would be a non-issue. It is also pretty trivial on the creator side to put their asset pack into its own folder. If this wasn’t a requirement for submission, then this would definitely be more of a ‘consumer issue’, but this is a standard that should be held and the marketplace is intended to not have these conflicts.
So sorry for the terribly late reply! I can’t be to sure which ones “overwrite” since I spam the “Add to project” on my many many asset packs (with updating the packs and adding to my project it takes a bit of time, so I walk away and not babysit it). I THINK it might be C-Media Material Packs?! And I suppose its very likely its “merging” folders rather than “overwriting” as it says?!
As for “Why are you putting the content into the same folder?”. Not sure you’ve seen the Epic Launcher
Off topic, but I want to say thank you for purchasing two of my packs on the marketplace. I would appreciate it if you could follow the links below and give them a rating and comment. Thanks in advance!
Hey I’m having the same issue with most of the packages I try to add to a project. I get a message (of course after I’ve waited for it to download) that says “Files already added to project, would you like to overwrite them?” Now regardless of whether the author of the package should’ve taken steps to avoid this issue before adding it to the marketplace, I don’t care about that, how do I fix this on my own? I’m new to UE4 so a detailed response would be MUCH appreciated. Thank you!
