Fab is completely overrun by ai garbage, endless ai generated images, models, ect. and its not just Fab but also artstation ans sketchfab. The ai filter does nothing as the spammers don’t bother to tag their “products” as ai. It makes searching for anything a complete chore and buries all of the real assets, art and models made by humans. These ai models are absolute garbage and aren’t even optimized to be used in any way in games, not to mention the 3d models were trained off of free sketchfab models without the uploaders permission.
Who even buys this garbage? People could generate it themselves for cheaper so whats the point?
Most of it has no use in a game, there are literally thousands of ai generated “cartoon characters” with the most random geometry.
Also! Steam does not allow games with ai generated assets, so people could get their games taken down for using it even accidentally due to all the untagged ai.
The number of copyrighted and straight up ripped models are also likely to get any game using them dmca’ed
I completely agree that sellers who were good at selling can’t sell anymore, I can’t sell either, sometimes I watch more than 600 3D models created with AI being uploaded in a week, they are slowly organizing themselves and it’s a bit scary for sellers, I feel like we are trying in vain.
I agree with the author of the post.
I recently bought, albeit an inexpensive model for testing, and spent more time optimizing it than I probably would have spent making it myself.
Previously, such models simply did not exist and if they were sold, then at least 10 per package and well optimized.
At this rate the almost all the assets being uploaded will be some form of ai (ai images, chatgpt generated code, ai music, ai models). Everything being uploaded using a script to post hundreds in a second, burying everything else completely in a deluge of garbage. If they let this go on the only ones left uploading will be ai because humans aren’t making any sales this year.
As someone who has been posting on here since Fab started I’ve seen all the points you raise, posted on here before, by various people with the same feeling of frustration you seem to have.
When I read what you posted I just nodded in agreement and then, sighed!
I still have hope that things will change, but I’m not holding my breath…my lungs aren’t capable of holding the air for as long as I think it will take to sort it out…that’s of course still hoping things will be sorted!
I actually consider myself lucky in one way! The models I create aren’t in great demand and so my category isn’t flooded with A.I.
It has some A.I, but of course if the model has a 3D viewer and you’re after a quality, all quad model, put together with individual pieces, which creates a model that can be used in a variety of ways, the 3D viewer exposes the many flaws A.I models have…putting aside all the other downsides.
But…I am truly puzzled as to why Fab are allowing their store to get the reputation it is slowly starting to gain, as it’s a reputation that will be hard to shake off once “earned”.
Yeah i noticed that too AI generated and some i straight ripped models from other games, slighly change cant notice without purchasing the model.
I think i saw the STALKER 1 / Clear sky models for short time but could not find it latter on.
But 90% it was ripped model i played that game and mods for hundreds of hours, and that car model is specific.
I had one of my stylized water packs rejected with the reason (exact quote):
“Not enough content. All products submitted to the Unreal Engine Marketplace should contain enough content to provide significant value to customers.”
The pack had a stylized water shader that took almost a week to put together, as well as stylized waterfalls and water splash effects. It was only meant to be a $5 product to save people some time.
I find it frustrating how people click a button now to generate 300 fantasy potion icons and somehow that is considered more content of “significant value.”
The real crazy thing about this is how the FAB team / Epic is ignoring the issue, acting like it’s not a problem, while it’s slowly killing the quality of FAB and trust people have in FAB … while simultaneously driving sellers way.
This sounds like someone higher up in management loves the idea of AI, while not really understanding it, thus forcing it on FAB, without realizing the damage it is doing.
The machines rose from the ashes of the nuclear fire. Their war to exterminate mankind had raged for decades, but the final battle would not be fought in the future. It would be fought here, in our present. Tonight…
