Outline gap with a custom runtime font

I noticed that the outlines are not centered with the text when you use custom fonts.
The gap seems differs depending on the used fonts.

Any idea ? Thanks

Hello IBREC,

I tested a few fonts on our end and I was unable to reproduce this issue. I have a few questions for you that will help narrow down what issue it is that you are experiencing.

Quick questions:

  1. Can you reproduce this issue in a clean project?
  2. If so, could you provide a detailed list of steps to reproduce this issue on our end?
  3. Could you provide screen shots on any settings that you may have changed?
  4. What fonts are you using that are showing the offset?

Yes I can reproduce this issue in a clean project, with all default settings and classic steps, but only with my custom made fonts.

I don’t have this issue with “default” fonts of the computer, like Arial, Times New Roman or anything else.

My fonts are made for the game with standard .ttf files.

And I don’t have this kind of issue in other software like Photoshop, Word or website.

I can send you the .ttf file if you want.

If you could provide the .ttf file, I will be happy to take a closer look.

Here is the .ttf file :

NOTE : This font accept only uppercase and numbers. (no lowercase available)

Hello IBREC,

After running a few tests it appears that your zero in your font may not be centered within the allotted space given for the character in the font. Could you try centering the zero in your font and let me know if this solves the issue?

With this V2, it seems to work fine, but I changed nothing.

I just re-saved the first .ttf with an other font editor : imported and saved, nothing more.

But I don’t find any difference with the first version. Do you have any idea ?

The first one was made with paintfont.com
and I re-saved the .ttf with Birdfont (birdfont.org) to have the V2.

I am happy to see that you were able to get things working. I will be converting your last comment to an answer. If this issue returns please feel free to reopen this issue with any additional information you may have and I will be happy to assist you further.

Make it a great day

I had the same issue with a font called Kids Magazine. I couldn’t use Birdfont to reexport the font because of license issues. I achieved to make this work with 0 knowledge in font editor so if you’re like me and you just want your things working here’s how I did it :

  1. Download + Install FontForge
  2. Import the font
  3. Double click on the character with the issue to open the editor
  4. CTRL + A to select all the points
  5. CTRL + SHIFT + X to do a command. You can find it under Element too. In French it’s called “Ajouter des extréma”
  6. Repeat for each character with an issue
  7. Generate your font (CTRL + SHIFT + G)
  8. Import the new generated font in UE and enjoy
