other engines for mobile games

hello
please dont attack me, yes ue4 is great but,

what choices do we have currently for mobile game development?

of course there is unity and all the long established pure code sdk’s.
i did use project anarchy for a while and it was actually pretty good but was in desperate need of huge updates, sadly they gave up on it instead, so thats gone.

what else is there, anything new and upcoming?

Nothing new as you know, but from what I heard Unity is the way to go. Especially if you want to do 2D stuff.

That does not make it any good, but it’s there.

Godot is what Unity was before they became greedy; Godot is a very good engine for mobile.
Unity now is just a platform at extraction phase (they’ll milk all the money they can before an eventual crash in 10~30 years).

I paid for Unity until before they’ve changed CEO, Unity4.
Ex EA boss was hired by Unity clearly to implement the extraction phase for them… And I would suggest to stay away from platforms when they hit that such stage in lifecycle.

Like what , Unity used to be decent but I honestly think it’s continually going downhill. I still use it but I don’t see it keeping up with UE4, tbh.

as i thought, thanks anyway you 3.

i did have a play with Godot a while ago but the visual quality is kind of lacking, maybe it will get better over time.
ue4 has the eye candy but runs like a rude word on almost all devices, and is incredibly slow to work with (compile and specially packaging times are ridiculous, not to mention the packaged game size, 300+mb for 2 static meshes and 1 skeletal mesh???).
guess it will have to be unity, its kind of the middle ground in terms of quality and is not too bad as long as you dont try anything out of the ordinary.

cheers

If you’re making RPGs, RPG Maker MV can now port to mobile (and html5)… plenty of decent games made in that engine’s earlier version. Undertale, To the Moon, C’thulu Saves the World…

Spark engine

Its a shame Project Anarchy from the Havok guys ended. That was a quite fine engine, with a coding system with c++ quite similar to what unreal engine does, source code for most the stuff, and nice performance. I would use it before unity for a mobile game, but its dead now :frowning:

I was using it, but to many mods become childish, and ban people falsely, then unban and then ban again…I was there for almost a decade… I used Unity for mobile only… and Unreal for everything else. But going to give Unreal 4 hard go for mobile since Unity has gone down hill, with a poor CEO and poor mods…What a mess 5.3 is…

If you want a great community since Unreal 4, or something else, if you want drama, use Unity… Also what I love about Unreal, you do not need to buy things in the asset store as much since alot is already in the engine… Where Unity, it isn’t… Unity asset store is a mess… If your a professional freelancer, like myself your better off, using a professional Engine, like Unreal 4. The community is very helpful, and they are not looking to troll you, Unity good luck, even some of the mods will troll.

Agreed. totally
