I am running OS X 10.8.5, and am unable to upgrade to Mavericks (10.9.2 minimum is required). Is it possible to install and run UE4 on my machine, or will I have to upgrade?

You will need to upgrade to 10.9.2 as that is the minimum version of OS X we support.
