Hey guys I finally released the alpha demo of my game Project Frequency, it’s an open world survival horror heavily inspired by old school horror games. The demo contains most of the core mechanics working, an small section of the open world level and a horde mode. I had a previous version made in Unity and it was pretty well received, now I’m looking to expand and turn it into a commercial title. I’ll be working on the Kickstarter/Greenlight from now on and hopefully by June it should be up and running.
So far people have been enjoying this alpha release, a couple of videos have been made so far and this is only starting :D!
I’ve been gathering data from the videos and will be updating the alpha till the Kickstarter releases, apart from bug fixes, I’ll be tweaking the core mechanics and balancing them out based on the feedback that I receive. Some changes include:
Combat will be much deadlier, monsters will react quickly and spend less time stunned
Hunger/Thirst rates will be tweaked to 16-20 minutes and the items will be adjusted according to the new rates
Survive map will be expanded to include some new buildings and areas to explore
A new weapon category will be added, which are the two handed melee weapons
And a couple of more goodies which will make their way to the alpha :D!
At the moment there’s only the PC version, after that’s stable, I’ll be moving to Mac and Linux, although I have 0 experience with mac/linux but I’ll try :P. All you gotta do is put your name and email and the download will start, it’s just to build the newsletter :P, the Gamejolt version will be uploaded this weekend after the gamejolt staff updates my upload count to 2GB :D, after that I’ll add it to indieDB.
I’ll be charging around $15-$30 for the final product, the price will mostly depend on the amount of work and quality put into it plus the time that it takes to develop the game.
Well all you have to do is build it for Linux/Mac, and give it to a tester! (Maybe someone will volunteer? ) How long will you’re game be? If it is under 8 hours I would suggest a $15.99 price tag. (I would personally make it $5.99. more people would want to try it. make sure it gets on steam and hopefully GOG.com) If it is longer you should go up a little. Also… I would not go for early accsess. Maybe you can get away with it? But there are so many early accsess games with horror elements. Also, I’ll wait for the Indieb or gamejolt download. I don’t like giving out my Email. (Besides steam I have only signed up for unreal 4!)
I also would like to know some of the game features. Will it have RPG elements? Overarching plot? Friendly NPC’s? Putin!?
P.S. what are the recomended specs to run this? I got a 550ti. (20-40 FPS is playable for me.)
Project Frequency is an open world survival game, meaning there’s no end to it, there will be some sort of progression in terms of areas/loot/safehouses. The story will be told indirectly, like in the old games, no cutscenes, little scripted events, etc. The difference between this game and the rest of open world survival games is that Project Frequency will focus strictly on providing an old school horror game experience with a strong focus on PvE content, there will be areas which will be out of your range in terms of supplies, there will be “Dungeons” and endgame content. Think of Silent Hill, the hospital is basically a “Dungeon”, they will be places where you solve puzzles, learn about the story, loot good supplies/gear and fight strong monsters. The game will receive free and paid updates throughout it’s life in Steam, new areas to explore, new weapons/supplies, new dungeons, etc. It’s a mix of different genres that will be balanced around the horror aspect and provide the replayability of open world games. All of this is still in heavy development and out of scope for now, but it’s where the game is headed.
With that GPU you can run the game comfortably on medium-high settings, the game runs somewhat smooth on integrated cards and low-mid end laptops. I made sure it’s somewhat optimized for the alpha, but there’s still a lot left to optimize.
Hey guys finally the alpha is out on Gamejolt! The improvements are massive, in terms of optimization, bug fixes and balancing. The game reeks of programmer art, I currently don’t have ANY artist working alongside the team, so I can’t offer pretty graphics, but the mechanics and gameplay is what I specialize in, try it out! you can download it from:

We will be moving forward with the greenlight/kickstarter and all that advertising stuff now since this version is pretty stable compared to the first one.
