Open Formats: USD import

Status

None

USD Import brings.usd,.usda,.usdc, and.usdz files into UEFN as meshes, materials, textures, and animations, so USD content no longer needs converting to FBX or glTF first.

USD Import runs through the same Interchange pipeline as FBX and glTF, so it uses the same import dialog and settings. It adds options for USD-specific needs, such as subdivision level and which parts of a scene to collapse. USD is the default format for exchanging 3D scenes between DCC tools in VFX, and it is spreading to games and enterprise. It’s for developers whose content already comes from USD-based pipelines, and for developers evaluating a new standard format for moving data between DCCs and UEFN. Export to USD is not included, and asset types such as audio, Groom, and Geometry Cache are not imported.
