Auto Rig — Automated Biped Character Rigging & Control Rig Suite
Auto Rig is a C++ editor plugin designed to simplify character rigging directly inside Unreal Engine.
Built specifically for biped and humanoid characters, Auto Rig provides a streamlined workflow for anatomical joint placement, skeleton configuration, skinning, and Control Rig creation.
The plugin is intended for character artists, animators, game developers, and Unreal Engine creators who want to prepare compatible 3D characters for animation without relying on a separate rigging application for every step. [ Compatible with Unreal Engine 5.8 only ]
Key Features
Automated Anatomy Fitting
Assists with placement of essential humanoid joints, including the pelvis, spine, neck, head, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, ankles, and feet.
Provides a standardized approach to humanoid skeleton creation.
Supports character proportions ranging from realistic humans to stylized humanoids.
Interactive Joint Calibration
Joint adjustment through interactive viewport controls.
Visual guides for joint positioning and skeletal alignment.
Symmetry-based adjustment tools.
Finger configuration options for different humanoid character designs.
Skinning and Weight Processing
Volumetric skinning workflow for skeletal mesh preparation.
Weight smoothing tools to help improve joint deformation.
Skin-weight processing designed to reduce common deformation artifacts.
Support for configurable bone influence limits.
Unreal Engine Control Rig Integration
Tools for generating native Unreal Engine Control Rig assets.
FK/IK control workflows for character posing.
Full-Body IK integration.
Character posing and animation workflows using Unreal Engine tools, including Sequencer.
Modular Character Workflow
Designed to accommodate compatible single-mesh and multi-part humanoid characters.
Applicable to character designs containing separate clothing, armor, and other modular components, subject to mesh compatibility.
Native C++ Editor Plugin
Developed using Unreal Engine C++.
Designed for use within the Unreal Editor.
Uses Unreal Engine's built-in rigging and animation systems.
Supported Character Types
Auto Rig focuses on two-legged humanoid anatomy.
Examples of intended character types include:
Realistic human characters
Stylized, cartoon, anime, and chibi humanoids
Humanoid soldiers, knights, and armored characters
Humanoid robots, cyborgs, and androids
Fantasy humanoids such as orcs, goblins, and skeletons
Important: Results depend on mesh topology, character proportions, geometry, and skeletal requirements. Some humanoid meshes may require manual adjustments.
Unsupported Mesh Types
Auto Rig is not designed for non-humanoid anatomical structures, including:
Quadrupeds such as horses, dogs, cats, and deer
Birds, bats, and other winged creatures
Spiders, insects, and other multi-limbed creatures
Snakes and other serpentine characters
Vehicles and mechanical machinery
Inorganic props such as furniture and weapons
