Only Character Root Affected When Playing Anim Montage, and Not in Any Correct Way.

Can’t upload a video, but I’ll try to explain the issue as best I can.

I’m using a character on the standard Manny skeleton, with nothing but a basic locomotion setup for movement. I have it set up so that on left-click, an animation should play. But it doesn’t. The character - still in their idle animation - gets wiggled around by their root bone, and then stops at a rotational offset. Rapidly left-clicking produces some interesting, gyroscopic movements.
Has anyone heard of something like this before? Some cursory googling turned up nothing.
