Online Blueprintable Beacons - simple example?

Have been trying to figure out how to use the Online Blueprintable Beacons for about a week now with only a little (unusable) success. I managed to get a ping server and client functioning (worked great) but after saving everything and shutting down for the night I can no longer use the blueprint in which the client connects - UE5.3 just crashes as soon as I try to edit it.

So after the third time my blueprint ended up corrupted I figured that although it was working I was doing something wrong (most likely), OBB has a bug (not very likely), or UE has a bug (least likely) so I moved on to trying to get the ServerInfo beacon working. After three days I have utterly failed.

There are perfectly working examples and I’m looking at them but they are so convoluted that I know I am missing something (and being an idiot I think). What I would like to see is some simple examples rather than tossing in blueprint interfaces etc. Maybe a gameinstance or gamemode that starts each type of host then a single client blueprint that talks to it.

I’ve deleted my attempts at pings since they just crash but here is my attempt at a serverinfo setup.

I’ve used renamed copies of the beacon and gamemode with no changes at all. Result is NIL. I get the feeling there is a function to call to get the serverinfo but I can’t find anything.

Can anyone suggest anything?

Ok I figured this one out - I was being a complete idiot and not seeing the blatantly obvious. The MyServerInfoGameMode is actually a game mode but I wasn’t setting the map gamemode to it so the casts always failed and thus nothing would work. I finally noticed this morning after I woke up and tried one last time to do something useful!

I’m not really that dense most of the time (hell I’m a stationary engineer that was top student in every course) but with this I was doing my Ralph Wiggum impression quite well!
